On Sunday, 12 March 2023, hundreds of would-be migrants stormed the Paso Del Norte bridge linking Juárez, Mexico with El Paso, Texas. Apparently, a rumor had spread that the border was being opened to give them fast-tracked political asylum in the U.S. Film footage, first aired on Fox News, showed a horde of some 1,000 people, reportedly mostly Venezuelans, running for the bridge. Among them were all ages of men, women, and children.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents held off the rampage with barricades of barbed wire and pepper spray deployed by officers in riot gear. CBP agents can only do so much, however, when the word is out that if you can get across the U.S.-Mexico border, Biden administration policies ensure you’ll get to stay in the U.S.
